Our Lecturers
Jeffry D. Gerson, OD, FAAO
Dr. Jeffry Gerson graduated from Indiana University school of Optometry in 1997, after which he went on to do a VA residency concentrating in low vision and ocular disease. He has been in several different practice settings, including a retina referral practice where he participated in several large clinical trials.
Currently, Dr Gerson is in private practice that is a collaboration of both OD’s and MD’s. He sees primary care patients and has an emphasis on retinal care in his practice. He enjoys having 4th year optometry interns with him and the challenges that they present. He still participates in clinical trials and utilizes many different diagnostic modalities. He also consults for multiple ophthalmic companies and appreciates the access this gives him to industry insights.
Dr. Gerson is a frequent lecturer in the US and abroad, and writes regularly for optometric publications. When not at work, he enjoys travelling, working out and spending time with his family.
Derek Cunningham, OD, FAAO
Dr. Cunningham is the director of the Dell Eye Institute for Dry Eye Research at Dell Laser Consultants in Austin, Texas and is well published in the areas of advanced dry eye treatments. Many of Dr. Cunningham’s dry eye protocols are used by academic institutions around the country.
In addition to having been an associate professor at Texas Tech School of Medicine, Dr. Cunningham also held adjunct professor status at the Inter American University of Puerto Rico, University of Waterloo, University of Houston, and University of Incarnate Word.
Dr. Cunningham is an internationally recognized educator, having provided continuing education lectures to eye doctors throughout the world. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. He is also the founding Chair of the Integrated Ophthalmic Task Force for the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

All hours are submitted to ARBO electronically on the attendee’s behalf. For all OD’s which require CE Broker, Tropical CE will also submit attendance to this platform. All Tropical CE educational programs are administered under the auspices of the Rosenberg School of Optometry, at the University of the Incarnate Word. The University reviews and endorses all course materials, speakers, and presentations.
